Jesus took naps, maybe you should too
I see you. The dark circles, the third cup of coffee, the deep sighs like you just finished carrying a cross up a hill. Let’s have an intervention (on behalf of your nervous system).
Today, we’re talking about something, holy, necessary, and tragically underrated: Naps
Yes. Naps. Siestas. Power snoozes. The kind where you knock out so hard that your friends think something is medically wrong with you. The kind where you wake up confused, questioning what year it is and who’s in charge. The kind where chaos is happening all around you, and you just… don’t care.
And before you argue that you’re too busy for rest... Jesus took naps. So, explain to me why the literal Savior of the world could take a break, but you, Karen from Accounting, cannot?
Let’s set the scene from the Bible:
The disciples? Freaking out.
The storm? Throwing a full-blown tantrum.
The boat? Basically, auditioning for Titanic.
Jesus? Out cold
“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion” – Mark 4:38
First of all… a cushion. This was not an accidental “I’ll just close my eyes for a second nap”. Jesus planned this nap. He took one look at the weather, the boat, the chaos and said: “Yeah I’m going to rest”. What can we take away from this:
Jesus was not just tired – He made a strategic decision to rest.
Jesus did not rush to panic just because everyone else was.
Jesus trusted God enough to SLEEP MID STORM.
Imagine that level of unbothered. Meanwhile, you’re losing sleep over a typo in an email. Jesus slept through a hurricane. You can probably take a break from stress-refreshing your inbox.
Why you need to be more like Jesus
We live in a “hustle culture” world where rest is treated like some kind of weakness. You’re expected to wake up at 4 AM, to go for a run, drink something green and disgusting, work 10 hours, then hit the gym again, and somehow still have time to read self-improvement books before bed.
But here’s the thing: If Jesus took naps, you can too.
Rest is not laziness – its obedience.
Burnout is not a badge of honor – it is a warning sign.
Good rest leads to good work
Signs you need a Jesus-Level Nap
You stare at your laptop like it personally offended you.
You’ve read the same email five times and still have no idea what it says.
Someone asks what’s for dinner and you genuinely consider crying.
You’d trade a year of free Wi-Fi for a 3-hour uninterrupted nap.
Listen, God designed your body to need rest. Stop acting like you’re above the system He created.
How to Rest Like Jesus
Schedule Your own storm nap – If Jesus could nap through life-threatening waves, you can take a lunch break.
Set boundaries – If Jesus could ignore screaming disciples for a nap, you can ignore your phone notifications for an hour.
Trust God more, worry less – Jesus did not panic, because He knew who was in control. Maybe that’s your biggest takeaway.
Actually Observe Sabbath – A full day of rest? God literally designed this for you. Maybe try it?
Final Thought:
If you’re running on fumes, God isn’t impressed. He’s not up there cheering, “Wow, look at them go, skipping sleep and pushing through exhaustion! Iconic Behavior!
No
He’s probably shaking his head whispering, “Just go to bed.” So, if you needed a sign from heaven to rest… THIS IS IT.
Your turn: Be honest… When is the last time you actually rested?
Send me a message and tell me: What’s one thing you can do this week to rest better? (And no, scrolling through TikTok in bed doesn’t count)
Would love to hear your thoughts. And, if this newsletter finds you mid-nap, just know... you’re doing the Lord’s work.
